Understanding IT Asset Tags

Asset Tag Identification

Every piece of hardware has a silver sticker with a unique barcode and number (e.g., IT-12345). This is the 'Asset Tag'. It allows IT to track warranty status, age, and assignment. You should never remove this tag. If the sticker begins to peel, bring the device to the IT bar for a replacement immediately. This identification is the only way we can verify the equipment belongs to the organization during audits.

Submitting Tickets with Tags

When you submit a support ticket, providing the Asset Tag allows technicians to instantly see exact specifications and service history. This saves time looking up serial numbers. For laptops, it's typically on the bottom of the chassis. For monitors, it's on the back. Knowing your tag number before calling ensures a faster troubleshooting start.
