Browser Maintenance and Extensions

Choosing a Supported Browser

For the best experience with our internal tools and security protocols, Microsoft Edge is our primary supported browser, with Google Chrome as the secondary option. These browsers are integrated with our Single Sign On (SSO) system, allowing you to access apps like SharePoint and Workday without constant login prompts. We do not recommend using Firefox, Safari, or Opera for work tasks, as they often lack the necessary security certificates and may not render our internal dashboards correctly. Keeping your browser choice consistent across the organization helps the IT team provide faster support and ensures that all security patches are applied uniformly through our centralized management console.

Managing Extensions and Security

Browser extensions can add great functionality, but they are also a significant security risk. Extensions often require permission to 'read and change all your data on the websites you visit,' which could include your passwords and sensitive company information. Only install extensions from official stores and only those that are strictly necessary for your job. If you notice your browser is running slowly, crashing frequently, or showing unusual pop-up ads, a malicious or poorly coded extension is the likely culprit. You can manage your extensions by clicking the puzzle piece icon in your browser toolbar. We recommend auditing this list every month and removing anything you no longer use to minimize your digital 'attack surface.'
